With the sun billowing down, 15 teams competed in this year’s tournament. The F’N Donkeys from Red Deer defeated the local Fat Boyz to take 1st place and the $900 cash prize. The Mighty Blumpkins, also a local team, defeated the returning Pitch Blease team to take 3rd place.

Members of the Copper City Cruisers won the team relays on Saturday afternoon which proved to be much more difficult that first imagined. Ray from the F’N Donkeys and Jeanette from the Mighty Blumpkins won the mens and womens home run derby, narrowly beating out members of their own team in each respective division.

The Friday Night Cabaret party was a great success with $850 being raised for ballpark upgrades. The money will be presented to the R.D.E.K. and goals for improvement outlined in the coming weeks. It is exciting to think that BALLFEST is a tournament that can help better the facility it occupies and in turn build a facility that will help better the tournament.

There will be a few changes for next summer including moving the tournament up a weekend, games on Friday night with a dinner at the Cabaret Party and more sprinklers, kiddie pools and ways to cool down. Returning favorites will be the home run derby, team relays and the notorious prize bat!!
